Flood gates and flood-relief gates

The Lower Macleay River is beginning to experience normal tidal movements and conditions again. As a result, the flood gates are scheduled to reopen this coming Wednesday.

As the levels and conditions of Kinchela Creek and Belmore River are returning to normal, Kempsey Shire Council is planning to reopen the flood gates, also known as crossover gates, on Wednesday 13 April.

The crossover gates are open in normal conditions to allow natural tides along the main channel. These gates were closed before the recent flooding as this helps control water levels in the main river and prevents water entering the floodplain in minor flood events.

Please note that plans to reopen the crossover gates may change if weather concerns become known.
