Kempsey Shire is located on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, which boasts around 15,000 hectares of national parks and 79 kilometres of pristine coastline, supporting an amazing variety of plants and wildlife. Situated on the banks of the Macleay river is our main town, Kempsey. This is a thriving regional centre with a rich indigenous heritage and has the largest residential population in the shire. It is home to key services and resources for our Shire and to Council’s headquarters.
Our council oversees an area of 3,381 square kilometres and cares for a growing population of more than 30,000 people. Council’s responsibilities include:

• 97 parks and playgrounds
• 10 sporting fields
• 1 Waste Management Centre
• 3 Waste Transfer Centres

• 1 Saleyard
• 1 Airport
Council is also responsible for the community’s water and sewer infrastructure and resources and manages the Slim Dusty Centre.
