Mayors and General Managers from Kempsey, Bellingen and Port Macquarie-Hastings councils have committed to a model of regional collaboration and planning under the structure of a Joint Organisation.
The inaugural meeting of the Mid North Coast Joint Organisation (MNCJO) was held in Kempsey on 13 June 2018, paving the way for how the councils will work with the NSW Government on high-priority projects in this region. Representatives from the Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Office of Local Government also attended.
Eleven joint organisations across regional NSW, comprising more than 90% of existing regional councils, have been declared, with the NSW Government providing $300,000 in seed funding to establish the new regional body.
The MNCJO will work closely with the NSW Government to make sure investment in infrastructure, services and facilities for the region’s communities is strengthened. Ageing infrastructure, increasing populations, employment and service creation are regional challenges. Therefore, it makes sense that these big-picture issues are attacked at a regional level to ensure we can be sustainable.
