At the June 2022 Council Meeting, Kempsey Shire Council adopted the Kempsey Cemeteries Strategy and Master Plan to guide the future management of the shire’s cemeteries.
Council currently manages 11 cemeteries across the Macleay Valley, some of which are in high demand and some which are closed to burials.
The new Cemeteries Strategy is designed to guide Council in managing, maintaining and improving cemeteries and cemetery services. It is also an important step in helping ensure cemetery services meet future demand.
Council takes its role in managing cemeteries very seriously. It is important that the strategy emphasises preserving the past as well as planning for the future.
The strategy includes an analysis of the current and future capacity of each cemetery site so we can plan for the long term.
