Midwaste

As a group, funding has been obtained from the Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) to carry out regional waste programs.  A Midwaste Regional Waste Strategy, with priorities and milestones has been developed, with programs nominated to be completed from July 2003 - June 2006.

Initial programs included the Local Waste Management Strategies for member Councils, Hastings Domestic Organics Trial, surveys to assess the viability of collective tendering for a wide range of services and a Community Survey across the region.

Other Midwaste initiatives include:

• Infrastructure sharing studies for Hastings/Kempsey and soon Gloucester/Taree and Great Lakes
• A group hazardous waste collection contract;
• Regional Landfill operator training;
• Reports on the 'True cost of Landfilling' for landfills in each Council area;
