Full calendar of events for NSW Seniors Festival 2018

Media release - 26 March 2018

Seniors will have the chance to take part in a variety of free events across the shire between Wednesday 4 April to Sunday 15 April as part of the NSW Seniors Festival.

The festival will be officially opened in Kempsey by the Macleay Valley’s 2018 Citizen of the Year and the 2018 Seniors Festival Ambassador, Betty Green, at the Anna Featherstone Author Talk at Kempsey Shire Library on Thursday 5 April from 10:30am.

This year’s festival features 19 exciting activities and workshops all highlighting the theme Let’s Do More Together.

Some of the events include a Seniors Road Safety Awareness Workshop at the South West Rocks Country Club on Wednesday 11 April from 10:30am to 12:30pm and a Macleay Valley Food Bowl produce and tastings morning on Thursday 12 April in Council’s Civic Centre Courtyard from 10am to 11am.

Ms Green said she is delighted to open the festival and hopes local seniors will come along to some of the free events.

“Council staff have worked hard to provide a varied program for our seniors. There is something for everyone,” she said.

“The program is a good opportunity for us to update our knowledge of communications which we all know is changing very fast and leaves many of us wondering how we go about being part of it.

“The presentations on iPads, Android and smartphone applications and how to do it are a great idea. As is the other aspects of the program such as art, exercise, yoga and food.

“As seniors, we need to get out and about and this is a prime opportunity for us to learn new things especially with technology and get out and meet up with other members of our community.”

This year marks the 60th anniversary of the NSW Seniors Festival which is the largest festival for seniors in the southern hemisphere.

Council has partnered with NSW Family and Community Services and Home Instead Senior Care to deliver the program of events this year.

A free, full-colour copy of the festival program is available at no charge from Council offices and library branches and is free to download from Council’s website. To find out more go to council’s website - www.kempsey.nsw.gov.au
