Kempsey to host micro music festival

Joint media release with Melinda Pavey MP - 28 September 2017

Kempsey will come alive as part of a NSW Government initiative to take micro music festivals to regional NSW for the first time.

Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey, said Kempsey Shire Council has been successful in its bid to host Live and Local events during 2017/2018 and is one of eight councils to share in $150,000 in funding.

“Macleay Live and Local will bring together the townships of South West Rocks, Crescent Head and the Kempsey CBD,” Mrs Pavey said.

“Council’s successful proposal outlined its plans to showcase local acts over two weekends. The project aims to engage up to three venues to host the performers.”

Kempsey Shire Mayor, Liz Campbell, welcomed the funding for the Macleay.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to promote the musical talent we have in the Macleay, particularly our young and emerging artists,” Mayor Campbell said.

“Macleay Live and Local will bring access to new and exciting events for our local community and businesses, and will liven up our local streetscapes and public spaces.”

The funding is administered by Live Music Office on behalf of Create NSW and is used to cover the cost of fees for musicians, curators and technicians involved in the events.

Council will release final details of the events, such as timing and location, after further consultation with the Live Music Office.
