Road improvements for South West Rocks

Media release - 2 June 2017

Almost half a million dollars in works to improve the condition of a number of roads in the South West Rocks vicinity will soon commence as part of Kempsey Shire Council’s roadworks program.

Work will begin during next week on Entrance Street to rehabilitate the pavement and resurface with bitumen before moving onto Lawson Street, Wentworth Avenue, Elizabeth Street and finishing at Jubilee Street. Lawson and Jubilee Streets will both also have failed kerb and guttering replaced.

Council’s recent Community Satisfaction Survey indicated that 57 per cent of residents have noticed an improvement in local roads in the last 12 months.

Council’s Manager of Engineering Works, Tony Green, said improving the condition of local roads in the Shire is a key focus for Council.

“These roads are in need of improvement and are the next to do as part of Council’s 2016-2017 Roadwork Program,” he said.

“While it will mean a bit of inconvenience for a short period of time, I’m confident the improved surface and safety of the road will be well received by the community.”

Traffic control will be in place in affected streets of South West Rocks and motorists are asked to observe all signage and directions from road crews and to travel with caution in the area.
