Media release - 1 June 2017

Some of the Macleay’s best produce will be on offer this weekend at the Kempsey Riverside Markets.

Market goers will be able to meet local producers and purchase their products by visiting the Macleay Valley Food Bowl tent, which due to popular demand will now be a regular monthly feature at the markets.

Local growers attending this Saturday’s market include Joe Mainey - with delicious fresh Pecans straight from the orchard; Elizabeth from Yarra Rocket Science - fresh basil, coriander, lettuce, bok and pak choy and shallots; Sue - with decorative living herb pots; Sally from Sweet Water Farm - organic certified Russian Garlic; and Paul from Mountain Nursery with Australian native wildflowers.

Kempsey Shire Council’s Economic Sustainability Officer, Kristy Forche-Baird, said the monthly stall is a great opportunity to promote local agribusinesses.

“We have such a diverse range of quality produce grown in the Macleay and the Kempsey Riverside Markets are a great place for people to come and meet our local producers and pick up some local produce,” she said.

Market organiser, Belinda Fowler, said the markets will have a diverse range of stalls bound to interest almost everyone.

”Having local businesses represented under the Food Bowl tent has definitely generated more interest and brought new stallholders to the market which is fantastic,” she said.

“Moving forward, we are looking to increase the number of stallholders as this provides the perfect platform.”
