Turners Flat Road, Turners Flat - bridgeworks in progress
Update No. 1 - 15 July 2019

Work to construct a new bridge over the Macleay River at Turners Flat is progressing. The work involves the construction of a new concrete bridge adjacent to the existing timber bridge, construction of road approaches and demolition of the existing bridge. The new bridge will be two lanes wide and 1.5m higher than the existing bridge for better service during floods.

Piling for the new bridge is substantially complete with only two piles (of 16) remaining to be installed in the deeper part of the river. Work will commence this week on forming columns and headstocks to raise the bridge superstructure to the design level.

The project is being undertaken for Council by Waeger Constructions and will take another 23 weeks to complete (subject to favourable weather conditions). When necessary, the bridge and approaches will be under traffic control during normal working hours and short delays may occur. The existing bridge is not expected be closed for any extended period during construction.

In the interest of safety, during the work a temporary speed limit will be enforced both during and after normal working hours. Motorist are requested to follow instructions from traffic controllers at all time when present.

Council appreciates the cooperation and support of local residents while these important works are carried out. For further information please contact the Customer Service Centre on 6566 3200
