Tozer Street, West Kempsey - proposed roadworks

Council has allocated $1.6m in the 2017/18 Operating Plan for the rehabilitation of Tozer Street, West Kempsey. Most of the work will not be undertaken until February 2018 but some initial works are planned to commence on 31 July (weather permitting) between Elbow Street and Marsh Street. The work involves removal and replacement of failed kerb and gutter and adjacent road pavement and bitumen sealing to rectify the current unsatisfactory road conditions. The work will require the use of earthmoving plant and trucks and is expected to take three weeks.

During the work vehicle access to properties may be restricted intermittently. Traffic control will be in place as required and short delays may occur. Motorists are requested to follow instructions from traffic controllers at all times. To avoid delays alternative routes should be considered where possible.

Nagles Falls Road - bridge replacement
19 July 2017

Work to replace the timber bridge on Nagles Falls Road is expected to commence on 24 July (weather permitting). The existing bridge will be demolished and a large concrete box culvert will be installed in the same location. A temporary vehicle bypass has been constructed around the bridge site while work proceeds.

The work requires the use of heavy earthmoving plant, trucks and cranes intermittently. Short delays can be expected at times. A 40km/h speed limit will apply at the site and traffic control will be in place as required. Residents are requested to drive slowly and obey the directions of traffic controllers at all times.

Lawson Street, South West Rocks - proposed roadworks

Roadworks in Lawson Street, South West Rocks are planned to commence on 12 July (weather permitting). The work involves removal and replacement of failed kerb and gutter and road pavement, bitumen sealing and associated works. It will require the use of earthmoving plant and trucks and is expected to take two weeks.

During the work vehicle access to properties may be restricted intermittently. Traffic control will be in place as required. Residents are requested to follow instructions from traffic controllers at all times.

Elizabeth and Jubilee Streets, South West Rocks - proposed roadworks

Roadworks in Elizabeth and Jubilee Streets, South West Rocks are planned to commence on 11 July (weather permitting). The work involves construction of kerb and gutter and widening of Elizabeth Street, removal and replacement of failed kerb and gutter and road pavement in Jubilee Street, bitumen sealing and associated works. It will require the use of earthmoving plant and trucks and is expected to take four weeks.

During the work vehicle access to properties may be restricted intermittently. Traffic control will be in place as required. Residents are requested to follow instructions from traffic controllers at all times.

Stuarts Point Road - proposed roadworks

Roadworks in Stuarts Point Road between Lukes Lane and Browns Road are planned to commence on 12 July (weather permitting). Work will be extended to Hunters Road in due course. The work involves widening and rehabilitation of the road pavement, bitumen sealing and associated works. It will require the use of earthmoving plant and trucks and is expected to take up to twenty weeks (weather dependent).

During the work there will be short delays and traffic control will be in place as required. Drivers are requested to follow instructions from traffic controllers at all times.

Elbow Street, West Kempsey - proposed roadworks
23 June 2017

Roadworks in Elbow Street, West Kempsey are planned to commence on 26 June (weather permitting). The work involves replacement of water mains, kerb and gutter, some footpaths, replacement of the road pavement, bitumen sealing and conversion to centre parking west of Tozer Street with tree planting and associated landscaping. The work will require the use of earthmoving plant and trucks and is expected to take six weeks.

During the work vehicle access to properties may be restricted intermittently. Traffic control will be in place as required and every effort will be made to maintain access to businesses. Motorists are requested to follow instructions from traffic controllers at all times. To avoid delays alternative routes should be considered where possible.

River Street, West Kempsey - roadworks nearing completion
Update No. 7 - 3 July 2017

Roadworks in River Street, West Kempsey between North Street and Elbow Street are nearing completion. Stabilisation and/or replacement of the failed pavement areas has been completed and an initial seal has been placed on the new pavement areas. A short section of pavement damaged by recent wet weather is being reworked. The final seal cannot be placed until warmer weather returns in September.

A dedicated right turn lane from River Street to Polwood Street will be linemarked shortly. The westbound bus stop and shelter is being relocated approximately 30m to the south. Some changes to parking will be required.

North Street, West Kempsey - roadworks nearing completion
Update No. 4 - 3 July 2017

Roadwork in North Street, West Kempsey between River Street and Tozer Street is nearing completion. Replacement of the failed pavement areas has been completed and an initial seal has been placed on the new pavement areas. The final seal cannot be placed until warmer weather returns in September.

Changed traffic conditions - Smiths Creek Road intersection closure
2 May 2017

Roads & Maritime Services advise that the intersection of Smiths Creek Road and the Pacific Highway will permanently close from early May 2017, weather permitting.

The closure of the intersection at Smiths Creek Road and the highway will allow the northbound on-ramp of the Kundabung interchange and the new northbound carriageway to be completed.

Northbound access to the local roads will be via the Kundabung interchange off-ramp. The exit will be about one kilometre prior to the existing Smiths Creek Road intersection. Electronic message boards and additional signage will be provided to assist motorists. A map is attached showing the planned traffic changes.

Motorists wishing to travel north to Kempsey from this area will detour via Rodeo Drive and Ravenswood Road (old highway alignment) and travel about seven kilometres and re-join the highway.

Bus operations will continue to use the bus stop at the Kundabung Motel on Smiths Creek Road during this time.
