Macleay River Water Quality Data

Kempsey Shire Council undertakes weekly water quality sampling at a number of locations within the Macleay estuary and some of its tributaries.

The river water monitoring provides baseline information on how the systems respond to changed climatic conditions and any issues relating to human health. The program also allows Council to determine water quality trends over longer periods and it used to determine if further investigation is required. The results are also used to supplement the water quality sampling undertaken by the Macleay River oyster growers.
