Multi-award winning strategy

Since its finalisation and adoption by Council in 2007, the Kempsey Shire ESD Strategy has received 3 awards for commitment and leadership towards sustainability.

Environs Australia Local Government Sustainability Leadership Awards 2007

On 11 September 2007, Council received an award at the National Sustainability Awards in Melbourne hosted by Environs Australia (a Local Government Network). Up against all other rural local government areas in Australia, the Kempsey Shire ESD Strategy took out the "Rural Achievement Award Cateory for Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability".

Local Government Managers Australia - 2007 Management Excellence Awards

Kempsey Shire Council collected an award at the 2007 Local Government Managers Excellence Awards. The event, sponsored by the Sydney Morning Herald, showcased leading Local Government projects and initiatives in the management field. Competing against all other Council’s in NSW, Kempsey received a merit award in the ‘Excellence in Sustainability within Local Government’ for the innovative and proactive leadership qualities shown in the Kempsey Shire ESD Strategy.

Local Government and Shires Association (LGSA) - Excellence in the Environment Awards 2006-2007

In December 2007 Council also received a highly commended in the major award category - the Local Sustainability Award - of the LGSA’s Excellence in the environment Awards. This special award recognises Council initiatives to implement Ecologically Sustainable Development (ESD) and strive for a sustainable future for their local community.
