Macleay Sustainable Schools Network

About the network

Kempsey Shire Council coordinates the Macleay Sustainable Schools Network (MSSN). The network welcomes local teachers and early childhood educators wanting to network and share ideas about school sustainability. It aims to provide learning opportunities, tools, resources, inspiration and support to develop and enhance sustainability initiatives. Parents and students will be invited to join some network activities as well.

MSSN meetings will be held once per term, with guest speakers and activities arranged in response to the preferences expressed by participants. Schools and early learning centres participating in the MSSN will have access to support from Council (limits apply), which may include undertakings such as:

  • Developing/reviewing School Environmental Management Plans
  • Conducting resource efficiency (energy, water and waste) assessments
  • Conducting waste audits and reviewing waste management systems
  • Establishing/reinvigorating Green Teams and student-led sustainability initiatives
  • Support with grant funding applications
  • Teaching kits and resources
  • Professional development
