Demolition of old Crescent Head amenities confirmed

With completion of the new amenities block in Crescent Head reserve the public are advised that demolition of the old facility is underway this week.

There will be some disruption to car parking and access to the boat ramp during the work. The safe movement of residents and visitors throughout the Reserve, both on foot and in cars, is a primary concern of the site management.

The demolition work is expected to be completed by Friday 1 September.

Due to an increasing demand, Kempsey Library is looking to establish a second book club in Kempsey.

There are currently two book clubs in the shire – one at the Kempsey Library held on the last Monday of the month from 2pm to 3:30pm, and the South West Rocks Book Club held on the third Thursday of each month at 10am.

Residents are being encouraged to express their interest in the creation of an additional community book club with meetings to take place on the first Monday of every month from 11am at Kempsey Shire Library.

The book clubs are all about bringing those who love reading together to be social, talk about what’s new in the book world and discuss what they liked and disliked about a particular book.

Anyone can join regardless of their reading level – all you need is a current library membership.

Dementia Awareness Month

As part of Dementia Awareness month, Kempsey Library will host an information session to answer some of the myths and misconceptions behind Dementia. The session will be facilitated by Kaylene Parker from Dementia Australia (previously Alzheimer’s Australia).

This week our crews will be working on:

Restoration of driveways to take place on Tozer Street this week
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Construct sidetrack, demolish timber bridge and excavate Nulla Nulla Creek Road for Bunghole Bridge replacement
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Clearing of Verge Drain and Anderson’s Drain; maintenance of Ball’s gates, Booth’s gates and Glenrock Drain
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Pour kerb and gutter and restore pavement on McIntyre Street, South West Rocks
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Collombatti Road, Gladstone/Smithtown streets and Crescent Head streets; heavy patching on Macleay Street and Turners Flat bridge approach
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Continue widening and rehabilitation of Stuarts Point Road (Lukes Lane to Mighell Road); asphalt surfacing Elizabeth Street, South West Rocks (Gregory Street to Jubilee Street); pour kerb and gutter and gutter on South Street, South Kempsey; excavate Armidale Road (at Nook Creek slip) as part of realignment
  • Gravel road resheeting: Beranghi Road
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Beranghi Road, Willi Willi Road (Turners Flat Road to Temagog Road)
  • Roadside slashing: Macleay Valley Way (Frederickton to Stuarts Point Road) and Summer Island Road
  • Other works: Central Kempsey Sewage Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks; install lining of new waste cell at Waste Management Centre; continue forming and pouring footpaths as part of Elbow Street upgrade, West Kempsey; continue drainage work as part of South West Rocks sports field extension
