Look out for your new bins

New red waste bin

Council’’s delivery of new domestic waste bins to residents of Kempsey Shire commenced this week.

Attached to the new bins will be an information kit containing a Waste Services Guide and fridge magnet. The Guide covers what can go in each of the three bins, and provides handy hints and maps for each of the waste facilities in the area.

Walk to fight animal cruelty at the Million Paws Walk

Council is proud to be supporting the RSPCA Million Paws Walk at Kempsey Showground on Sunday 21 May.

Our staff will be at the event providing information on microchipping and responsible pet ownership. There will also be games, giveaways and special prizes for best dressed dog and owner.

All proceeds go toward assisting the RSPCA operate its animal shelters, support its Inspectorate, and provide community education on animal welfare issues.

Macleay Ecohealth Report Card

A new report card revealing Macleay Catchment waterway health is now available. The Ecohealth assessment was undertaken by the UNE Aquatic Ecology and Restoration Research Group and coordinated by Kempsey Shire Council, North Coast Local Land Services (NCLLS), Northern Tablelands Local Land Services (NTLLS) and the Office of Environment and Heritage (OEH).

Aiming to provide the community with an easy to understand periodic update on the health of individual catchments, the report card measures key indicators of aquatic ecosystem health and compares results against national guidelines.

This week our crews will be working on:

Rock protection on Belmore Right Bank Road
  • Bridge construction/maintenance: Commence Oil Terminal Footbridge rebuild in South West Rocks
  • Flood mitigation maintenance: Gate replacement at Robinsons Drain, Summer Island; weed spraying on Summer Island Road and in the Kinchela area
  • Drainage/kerb/footpath maintenance: Footpath and kerb repair on Bunya Pine Court and Douglas Fentiman Street
  • Bitumen road resealing/maintenance: Pothole patching on Collombatti Road, Seven Hills Road and South West Rocks streets; heavy patching on Hat Head Road
  • Bitumen road construction/rehabilitation: Removal and replacement of failed kerb and gutter, and installation of new pit lintels/grates on River Street, West Kempsey; removal of damaged kerb and gutter on North Street, West Kempsey
  • Gravel road maintenance grading: Grading on Warbro Brook Road, Upper Smiths Creek Road, Wharf Road, River Road and Winstead Road
  • Roadside slashing: Slashing on Collombatti Road, Macleay Valley Way (Clybucca to Stuarts Point Road), Stuarts Point Road, Grassy Heads Road, South West Rocks Road (Gladstone to Kempsey) and in the Crescent Head area
  • Other works: Continue construction of new Waste Management Centre cell; footpath excavation and drainage works from Chapman Street to shops as part of Frederickton streetscape; sealing of drainage trench on Hughes Place, Frederickton; installation of bollards on Belgrave Street; repairs and extensions to rock revetment wall at Mattys Flat Boat Ramp; Central Kempsey Sewer Treatment Plant access road and site earthworks

Any person may make a written submission to the consent authority in relation to a development application during the exhibition period. If a submission is made by way of objection, the grounds of objection must be specified in the submission. Please note that any submission received by Council may be made publicly available.

A person who makes a written submission to a development application is required to disclose all reportable political donations and gifts (if any) made by the person making the submission or any associate of that person within the period commencing two years before the submission is made and ending when the application is determined.
